I LOVE GUILDFORD BECAUSE… GVG LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN TO FIND THE BEST OF THE TOWN CENTRE 1450 794 Lisa Flounders

Guildford Vision Group has launched its ‘I love Guildford because…’ campaign, a survey and competition to find out exactly what Guildford’s residents, workers and visitors think of the town centre. We need you to share your views on what you love best about the town; we’ll announce the results at our next public meeting on Tuesday 16th October.

Answers are welcome in a variety of ways, whether you wish to provide a written list of all your favourite things, you just have a preferred shop on the high street and you want to let us know, or you want to share your pictures and videos. Simply start your response with ‘I love Guildford because…’ and get in touch.

You can take part by leaving your comments here on our website, or by emailing us directly. You can also find us on Facebook (@guildfordvisiongroup), Twitter (@guildfordvision) and Instagram (@iloveguildford) if you’d like to share your videos and photos. Please submit your responses by Monday 1st October.

In addition, we’ll be handing out prizes; a £100 gift voucher for Cosy Club will be awarded to two winners, one recognising the most unusual reason to love Guildford town centre, and the other rewarding GVG’s favourite photograph of the town centre.

John Rigg, chairman of GVG, said: “We know that Guildford is a brilliant place for all sorts of reasons, however we want to know exactly what people love best about living and working here. Your views will allow GVG to create the first, definitive list of Guildford’s best bits, according to the people who are here every day.”

  • I love Guildford because of its history – The Castle, the Museum, cobbled High Street with the character and architecture of its buildings. Also the fabulous flower displays in the Castle grounds and around the green spaces in and around the town and riverside areas. Please keep it up and add more whenever possible. I am proud to show my visitors this beautiful town where I live.

  • I love Guildford because of its rich history & when walking round town i often look above the modern shopfronts & imagine what happened in these buildings in days gone by.
The High Street & Guildhall are stunning as are the Castle Grounds & Stoke Park which are a credit to GBC,especially the stunning flower baskets which adorn lamposts round town in the Summer months.
I also enjoy cycling along the towpath into town from Bellfields going past Dapdune Wharf through town past Millbrook and towards Godalming via St Catherines.
Guildford also has many hidden gems just off the beaten track such as Racks Close & Quakers Acre & the Castle bowling green & bandstand.
St Marys chuchyard is very peaceful despite being sandwiched between Millbrook & Quarry Street but my favourite part of Guildford is Rosemary Alley that links Quarry Street & Millbrook.

  • I love Guildford because… it’s my favourite place to mooch around the clothes shops, and the cobbled streets and talented buskers make it all the more enjoyable! And of course… Wagamama’s!

  • Guildford has the wonderful amenities associated with a town but retains an almost village like feel. A stroll down Guildford High Street is like a holiday in miniature, great views, fabulous shops, superb eating and so many different accents to enjoy.

  • Guildford has beautiful views, a stunning clock, setts on the High Street, a great castle museum plus a lovely river. Nowhere can beat it.

  • Guildford is fantastic! We have a 5 min walk to the train station & then 40 min to Waterloo. 5 min walk to High street & shopping. & 5 min walk to then enjoy the beautiful river & fields with sheeps & cows. There is so many beautiful locations within walking distance from the town centre.. The Mount, Chantries, Pewley Down, St Marthas & many more! And also, only 40 min to Gatwick & about the same to Heathrow, fab!

  • I love Guildford because the sound of my new rescue greyhound’s little paws along the cobbled High Street is one of pure joy – and I get to hear that whilst watching the world go by!

  • I love Guildford because the sound of my new rescue greyhound’s little paws along the cobbled High Street is one of pure joy – and I get to hear that whilst watching the world go by, with the beautiful green hills in the distance!

  • I love Guildford because of its history and the High Street…..but, make more use of the river down by Debenhams & the Cinema. A pedestrianised stretch from the railway station past the Odeon (but put the Odeon we’re Old Orleans was and restaurant/bar along the riverside. Pedestrianised walkway then continues through the demolished Casino, overhead walkway into the Friary which has been extended to the Old Post Office site.

  • I love guildford because of its vibrant atmosphere and social vibes. The pubs bring a special ambiance to the town as well as the variety of shops satisfying my needs beyond most. It’s a home for me and home for many, and is welcomes those who are new with open arms – and that is why I love guildford

  • I love Guildford because the wonderful historic shopping area is surrounded by the most beautiful countryside and green open spaces. It’s a gem.

  • I love Guildford because it’s one of the very few towns left where there is nothing not to love…

  • I love Guildford because I used to live In Surrey, I grew up down there and used to work in Barrets shoes many years ago as a teenager, I have many fond memories of going to work there, but also going to hang out with my friends and go shopping too…Even my rebellion piercings were done in Guildford..which I still have haha) I flew the nest and moved to Lancashire but my family remain down there, I now have my own children and we visit often, I love to share stories of growing up, showing them great places to in town, plus it’s so pretty too! I LOVE GUILDFORD

  • I love Guildford because…whatever mood, company or weather you’re with, there is something lovely to do and see. The canal is one of fond memories, and since the development at the bottom of the highstreet now mean I have the added bonus of enjoying Franco Manca pizza with friends on the grass, and have a short walk into town for a drink at any one of the many pubs. There’s so many different characters (buildings & people) and it just feels like home – or more rather if you haven’t heard of the word ‘hygge’ look it up! It sums up Guildford very nicely. You feel safe and comfortable being in Guildford. I’m still in my 20’s and look forward to going in each time, and look forward to all the things I’ll get up to and Guildford offers me in the future!
